What is a Dementia Friendly Organization?
A dementia friendly organization is one in which management and employees can recognize the signs of dementia in customers, communicate effectively with individuals with dementia, connect individuals to local resources and support caregiver employees. A dementia friendly organization is a supportive, prepared, and knowledgeable place for people with dementia and their care partners to visit or be employed.

To receive the dementia-friendly organization designation, the organization will:

Have a physical location in Fayette County.

Have a current business license, if required

Strive to train 50% or more of non-management staff and 100% of management staff.

Have Ownership and Management committed to supporting sustainability of ongoing training for new employees and refresher training for existing staff.

Commit to participate in an annual review of the previous year’s participation and determine if additional training and resources are desired.

Maintain, and share with their DFL Advisory Council Mentor, an up-to-date list of staff who have been trained.
